Last Days of Summer...

It's the last week of August and we all know what that means.  Summer is over!!! Yes, no more hot days laying on the beach, swimming in the pool or BBQ's.  It's back to school, no vacations and back to full work weeks (that's right no more leaving early on Friday for long weekends in the Hamptons or Fire Island).  So how do we go out with a bang with Labor day around the corner?  We throw an awesome and great Labor Day BBQ/Outdoor Dinner Party!

I have put some great examples of decorating for an outdoor dinner party.

Love this idea of hanging floral arrangements from the tree over the table.  There is beautiful flower arrangement on the table and with place setting.
Here we are set up for a semi-formal seating arrangement.
Great Intimate setting for just a few friends. Love the pink runner and candles. And last but not least, let's not forget the floral arrangements!

 HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!

TIP FOR THE DAY

Buy all Season items at the end of the season for next year.

For example, buy all summer outdoor furniture and BBQ Grills now during Labor and End-of-Season clearance and sale deals for next year.  Do the same for all holidays...especially Christmas!!

TIP OF THE DAY

Here's a great bathroom idea...instead of towel holder add a hook shelf.  Not only does your towel dry better but you can add more towels to hang (especially if you have more than 2 people in the home).

It also allows you to display pictures, deodorizers, candles and anything you can think of. (Please install properly)

Chandeliers Obsession

So, I have a new obsession and it's with Chandeliers.  And not just any kind, but Crystal Chandeliers.

Hampton Bay Chandelier $99 @ HomeDepot

In the past Chandeliers was just for the dining room and if you were very wealthy it was also in your foyer, but over time that just isn't the case any more.

Having a Chandelier meant you can class and you was someone important.  Most people had them in the foyer, dining and living area.  They were in ball rooms and hotel lobbies.  But now, just about everyone has them at home.

Formal Dining

Gourmet Kitchen

Chandeliers are now in formal living rooms, library/den, home office, kitchen, nurseries, master bedrooms, walk-in closets and also bathrooms.  Yes, bathrooms, usually in the master bathroom over the soaking tub or in the middle of the room.

Prices for Chandeliers have come down substantially; but don't get me wrong they are still quite expensive.  Prices range from the low $40's to as high as $10-20K.  It all depends how extravagant you want it and how big you want it and your pockets are.

TIP OF THE DAY

Tack an empty tissue box to the inside of your sink cabinet door and stuff your empty grocery bags in the box. This will securely hold them, organize and make them a convenient dispenser.

Displaying on Console Tables

Hey everyone, I have put together a few choices of console tables and how to display items on them.  Console table are put in various areas in the home.  There are not only for entry.  They are in hallways, on top of staircase landings, dining rooms, formal living rooms and of course behind the sofa in the family room.

We have mini box trunks, floral dish (great for keys or candle), 4pc. wall art,  3pc. bird top glass bottles, glass lamp, table clock, and small floral arrangement.

On the table we have floral arrangement, bowl with fruit (grab a snack on the way out), glass pedestal bowl for potpourri (for fragrance as you enter the home), and a mirror.  On the bottom shelf a mini statue bust and two flat square boxes.  They have also added a side chair besides the console table for extra display interest.
Display here we have candles, floral arrangement, bird and Buddha head statues, table clock, picture frame, mirror and table lamp.

And here we have a large mirror, vase and small box (to hide keys and nick-knacks)

HomeGoods watch

Had a great time shopping/browsing the new home merchandise at HomeGoods this weekend and I must say I was very happy!!

HomeGoods $119

I came across these two great statement piece console tables (above). Now I know I mention in my last post (pic below) about putting a console table behind the couch to allow more surface space for displays but it's also great as a statement piece in the room or entry way.
